March Hide Tanning- LOOKING FOR DONATIONS

In March of 2022, Montgomery County Conservation offered the first hide tanning class to community members and beyond. We had participants from Omaha, Mount Ayr, and even Missouri travel to attend this class. Over the course of 2 weeks, attendees gathered at the Wolfe Nature Center a total of four times and worked rabbit hides from off the rabbit to a soft, supple, tanned, and broken hide. This class filled quickly and others wanted to take it again. Staff with Montgomery County Conservation are looking for hide donations for next March (2023)! If you have rabbit hides or other hides you don’t want, please contact Cassandra Alfstad, the naturalist for MCCB and instructor for this course. Upon donation of hides, you will receive free admission to this course, as well as a bottle of tanning solution.

You can reach Cassandra in the office at (712) 623-4753 or email her at calfstad@montgomerycountyia.gov.
